Episode 38: The Siren In The Lake
This episode, our heroes met with Mr. Damori, brother to Lord Thadar Damori and owner of the Damori Theatre regarding Bim's contract. Sankara, however, was pulled in another direction when he received a missive from Mr. Ravani of the Ravani Vineyards asking him for a repeat audience following their meeting the day prior.
The party decided that their goal was for Bim to take a leave of absence, but with the busiest tourist season of the year upon Brilfax this wasn't possible. Bim proposed burning down the theatre and blaming it on the Remnant of Orcus, but that I'd was shelved by the party. The other option was to find a comparable act that could draw crowds. Mr. Damori proposed an idea. He had come into possession of a collar that, when place upon the neck of a recipient, would render them compliant. Free, but without the fear of being a threat. Rumors of a dangerous siren at Lake Tasso had circulated for years and had put a real damper on tourism. Mr. Damori proposed that the party collar the siren and allow her to serve Mr. Damori and the theatre with her song. This would also solve the pestering problem of a constant threat at the lake-- a popular tourist attraction for the city. He gave the party the collar after they said they would do the job.
Lucky tried on the collar. Life became blissful and without burden. His drive to topple capitalist social structures diminished as everything just seemed so silly. An identify spell cast by gallogk revealed that the collar was actually controlled by a braclet-- the weared of which the party correctly guessed was Mr Damori. Chip remembered that some sirens have not always been as they were. Some were cursed. It was possible the same could be the plight of this siren. Returning to theatre, much to Mr. Damori's frustration and anger, the party decided that they felt to morally conflicted about making a person who might possibly be suffering from a curse not only traquil against their will but continually stuck in their cursed state. They denied Mr. Damori and stole the collar after Gallogk cast a hold person spell on him.
They made their way to the lake where they encountered the siren. A few rounds passed, one of while entailed her charismatically drawing the party towards her deep into the water. Gallogk would have been done for if not for a potion of water breathing he'd been holding on to since Solas. Gallogk, on a step of faith, cast remove curse on the Siren. He cursed form melted away revealing a haggard and weakened young woman who collapsed on the shore of Lake Tasso. As soon as the curse was lifted, a rumbling caused ripples along the still waters of the lake. Suddenly, all of the water began draining in the lake, revealing many fish now out of water, but more importantly an ancient temple of sorts that was lost to memory at the bottom of the lake.
