Episode 36: Showdown at the Damori Theater
Our last episode opened with Lucky watching his friends taken off to the Brilfax Jail to be held after the murder of Ravinia in the town square of Brilfax. In a series of successful persuasion checks, Lucky was able to give an up-and-coming reporter, Kipperlily Everpetal, all of the details of what truly went down as well as start a rumor mill amongst the townsfolk that largely painted the party in a favorable light. Lucky stopped by The Damori Theater to solicit The Incredible Bim's help. Leveraging his fame, Bim wrote a letter of good character on the party's behalf which Lucky delivered to the Brilfax jail later that night.
The party was taken to the Brilfax jail where their equipment and gear were taken. They were to be held while the city watch worked on sending messages and correspondence to Fairview, Glynndarryl, and Solas to confirm the party's claims. Lucky arrived a few hours later after his meeting with Bim just in time to witness the two explosions at the Brilfax jail. The first was in the morgue where Ravinia's body was located. A strange guard with bloodshot eyes detonated a fireball spell in the confined area killing himself, the other guards and injuring the party.
That party escaped the jail and ran into the streets of Brilfax. Explosions from the airship docking bay and an arcane distress signal from The Devourer altered the party to trouble. They immediate began running for their ship across town.
They were stopped in their tracks by Eleazar, a member of The Hand of Orcus, in front of The Damori Theater. His portal released wild, malevolent magic that flew out of sight of the party into the night air. Inside, tumultuous applause signaled the start of Bim's show, One Night Only. Eleazar apologized from Ravinia's absence and explained that she would have been there had she not just woken up. He informed the party that he would be their executioner that night.
Eleazar unleashed a barrage of psychic energy, chains, and corrupted two townspeople into distorted chain beasts. After a harrowing battle and Bim joining the fight, the party defeated Eleazar. However, shortly thereafter, he began to unleash what Chip identified as some sort of self-destruct psychic energy that changed Eleazar into a monstrous psychic beast. The Devourer echoes in the minds of the party, "Masters, Intruders. The prisoners." The episode ended on the cusp of a skill check challenge with the party running through the streets of Brilfax with Eleazar's monstrous, unstable form in pursuit...
